Southern China:  Tribes and Festivals

Silk and Stones Travel has a new itinerary for a 16 day trip in 2011 to visit China’s cities and villages, especially the colorful minority tribes of Guizhou province where we will enjoy the unusual and spectacular Sister’s Meal Festival (see photos below), and walk through villages, bamboo forests, and rice fields, seeing the talented, creative artists who carry on the ancient crafts of weaving, embroidery, silver, and bamboo pipes.  Start in Beijing to see the Great wall, the Forbidden City, and the silk markets, then transfer to Guizhou’s capital, Guiyang, for folk music, festivals and textiles, continue onto Xian for terra cotta warriors, and ends in Shanghai to experience the old neighborhoods, the markets, the museums, and the cuisine.

For those travelers with prior experience in Beijing, Shanghai, or Xian, join the trip later and/or leave earlier. For a detailed itinerary, contact Silk and Stones Travel
